The DVD edition of the live performance at the Hitomi Memorial Hall in Tokyo on September 16th, the memorable first day of the 2024 Japan tour, which was also the final stop of the 55th anniversary debut "THE CLASSIC TALES OF YES Tour", was fully recorded with a multi-stereo IEM matrix, and further recorded with high-quality audience shots of the live performance on that day. First, the stereo IEM sources that each member used on stage, each with a different mix balance, were mixed in an exquisite balance to create a multi-IEM matrix, and then the digital audience source was stereo-mixed with an exquisite combination, faithfully reproducing the scene of the day with a hybrid sound that conveys the atmosphere of the venue to the fullest. And the digital camera footage of the opening and "Machine Messiah" is not recorded with video, only audio, but it is a stable and good shot from the front of the stage throughout, and the audio part is synchronized with the CD's multi-IEM matrix source, and the quality, including the audio, is a world apart from fragmentary videos on YouTube and the like. First of all, this was their first visit to Japan in two years, and the first day of three consecutive shows in Tokyo. As with their North American tour, they recreated "Tales of Topographic Oceans" as a new suite of about 20 minutes. Although it was in medley format, the arrangement was well-crafted and there was no cut-and-paste feel, so much so that I would like to see it re-recorded as a renewed version. The other selected songs were also fresh, and the only four standard songs they played in their two recent visits to Japan were "I've Seen All Good People," "Siberian Khatru," "Roundabout," and "Starship Trooper," and the rest were songs that were played here in Japan for the first time in a long time. In addition, their performance skills have definitely scaled up since two years ago, and Steve Howe's lively playing in particular makes this a Japan-only memorial item that makes you look forward to the next five shows.
