"The best show of 1978," "A concert loved by God," "A night when everything went well" ... A new excavation album of a miraculous live performance that has been highly praised in various ways is now available. The best performance of such a great performance is the "January 17, 1978: Osaka Welfare Pension Hall" performance. This concert is the sixth performance of the second Japan tour. Since DEEP PURPLE's first visit to Japan in 1972, Ritchie Blackmore's popularity has grown every time he visits Japan. 1972 (3 performances) → 1973 (6 performances) → 1976 (9 performances), and in 1978, it increased to 16 performances at once. As usual, let's check the schedule here.・January 11th: Nagoya City Public Hall ・January 12th: Hiroshima Prefectural Gymnasium ・January 13th: Kumamoto Prefectural Gymnasium ・January 14th: Fukuoka Kyuden Memorial Gymnasium ・January 16th: Osaka Welfare Pension Hall ・January 17th: Osaka Welfare Pension Hall [This work] ・January 18th: Kyoto Hall ・January 20th: Osaka Welfare Pension Hall (Note: Only the first 8 performances) This is only the first half. It shows how popular it was, but this work is the middle audience album of the three "Osaka Welfare Pension Hall" performances. Many of you may already know this, but there are traditionally two representative recordings on this day. One is "ON TOUR 1978: STARSTRUCK" and the other is a recording that has been loved for many years as "SUCCUBUS 78". Our shop also received great reviews for "STEEL BREEZE", which is a compilation of the best versions of both recordings. This work is different from both of them. It is the "third" master, which was suddenly discovered in recent years. The quality is also of a special class! Since both recordings so far have been so decisively wonderful, it is not easy to make a fuss about "updating the best masterpiece!", but it is not losing... It may seem like it is actually losing, but it is not. Although it is certainly not half a step behind "ON TOUR 1978: STARSTRUCK" in terms of overall points, it is on par with the "SUCCUBUS 78" master... but this work is clearer and more vivid. Each hit of Cozy Powell roars with a sharpness that can be described as "striking a drum can", and Ronnie James Dio's singing voice is clear even to the shaking of the fist. Of course, Richie's guitar, which is essential, also shines with a melting tone in a transparent atmosphere. When it comes to the low tones of the synth, it is realistic to feel the floor of the Welfare Pension Hall shaking. In terms of the fineness of the musical details, this work may be number one. Although it is such an astonishing master, there are many obstacles to success. The original sound source currently on the market is significantly out of pitch, and the muddiness of the mid- and high-pitched sounds is also noticeable. In this work, in order to maximize the new excavation, precise mastering was carried out. The pitch was accurately corrected, and the mid- and high-pitched sounds were adjusted to create a sound that makes the musical sounds even more steep. Of course, we did not do any unrefined imitations that would destroy the sound of the original sound or the natural feel. The best night of 1978, depicted by the polished "third master". After all, the concert on this day is perfect no matter how many times you listen to it. Richie was in a good mood because of the performance, but even if you get angry at the poor performance in a life of doing dozens of concerts a year, a little good doesn't change your mood. In particular, Ronnie was in a bad mood at the first few shows of this Japan tour. But it was a big turnaround. Ronnie's voice regained its original power and beauty, and Richie's fascinating phrases overflowed endlessly. Long solos of up to 10 minutes, such as "16th Century Greensleeves", prove the momentum that seems to be able to improvise forever. On the other hand, the unity of "Kill The King" where the whole band charges and "Mistreated" where the drama explodes are also tremendous, and they become a ferocious tsunami that swallows the audience. In the upbeat "Man On The Silver Mountain", the improvised "Night People" is emotional everywhere. Of the three Osaka performances, this was the only day that we could hear the encore "Do You Close Your Eyes," and even the flashy guitar crash exploded. However, the band alone does not make a "perfect night." This work also vacuum-packs the energy of the audience at the venue. Of course, it is not a recording that is full of fuss (never!), but a style that listens to quiet parts and claps to the band in intense songs. It never interferes with the musical sounds, but there is an explosive power when it boils over. The reaction is filled with a different heat than "ON TOUR 1978: STARSTRUCK" and "SUCCUBUS 78." The 1978 Japan tour had both tragedies and great performances. This is a new live album of "Osaka Day 2," which is said to be the pinnacle of that tour. A miraculous night is wonderful no matter how many times you witness it. Another one that allows you to re-experience the "perfect night" from another new seat.
