How should I introduce such a live album? It's just shocking. When I first listened to the master, all I could think of were "!?" This album is a vacuum-packed live performance by PFM, the treasure of Italian progressive rock. It was held in Rimini on August 10, 1975, three months before their legendary first visit to Japan, just before Bernardo Lanzetti joined the band. In other words, it is a live performance by the five golden members (Franz Di Cioccio, Franco Mussida, Flavio Premori, Patrick Givas, and Mauro Pagani) who created "Resurrected World". I have always thought that the word "indescribable" is evidence of a lack of effort to express it in words, but after listening to this album, I am at a loss as to how to introduce it. I think the only thing I can do is fill it with "amazing" and "wonderful". First of all, the five golden members at the peak of their power are performing in their home country of Italy. You can imagine how awesome the live performance is just from this fact, but the sound that captures it is also amazing. The first surprise when I put on the master was, "Could it be a PFM radio broadcast!?", but it seems that this is not the case, and this work is apparently an audience recording. No, it's not "like". It is clearly stated that it was "recorded with a microphone on stage", so it is definitely not a line recording. However, when listening to it, it is so much like a sound board (and a beautifully mixed broadcast sound source), that I can't help but add "like". Unfortunately, the actual master reel seems to have been lost, and it is a digitized version of the 1st generation copy, but the vivid sound is so fresh that I can't even imagine what the master reel sounded like. From the band introduction at the beginning, it seems like a radio broadcast with studio cheers on the sound board, but there is a direct feeling even to the howling and amplifier noise that can be heard faintly during tuning. After that, they greet in Italian and start playing, but even there it's like a line. No matter how complex the phrases of each instrument are, every note is clearly heard, and the drum beats are so clear that they even assert the composition of the kit. The vividness of "Il Banchetto," which intertwines in detail and endlessly, is amazing! This sound is the pinnacle of PFM's live performance. It has been almost two years since the "golden five" were formed, with Givas, who also made a big impact on the debut album of AREA, another Italian treasure, joining the band. This is the most delicious time when the momentum of the golden age, which is expected to make further leaps, has begun to wear maturity. There is also the confidence and dignity that can only be found on home ground. This is because at that time PFM was not only the biggest band in Japan, but also the "heroes of Italy" who were in high spirits after making their international debut. The fans who continued to support them looked at their hero with pride, and the band responded to that with all their might. The official live album "COOK" is, of course, an unquestionable masterpiece, but I was reminded that "it was an away battle to challenge the world". In particular, disc 2, which opens with the powerful "Celebration (E festa)", is unprecedented. When you think of PFM, elegant delicacy comes to mind first, but how powerful is the ensemble that pushes forward with complexity and precision! This is followed by "Impressioni di Settembre", which is extended to 24 and a half minutes by boldly incorporating ever-changing jams and drum solos. This intense ups and downs and unrestrained melody... even DEEP PURPLE and BLACK SABBATH around 1970 are pale in comparison! If you say PFM's masterpiece among masterpieces, it is "READING FESTIVAL 1973" (selected as the No. 1 in the "Italian Bootleg Best 10" in the "Italian/Euro Rock Special" in Beatleg magazine vol. 89). This work is the shock since then. Well, if you take into account the presence of the master Zivas, the home performance, and the full-scale two-disc set, it may even surpass that super masterpiece. 2015 marks 40 years since the live performance. A once-in-40-years masterpiece has appeared. It's so amazing that it's almost numbing to even the joy. I urge you to experience it right now.
