The release of the "ultimate heavy metal paradise" known only to those in the know is decided! Such a heavy metal paradise is none other than the "MERCENARIES OF METAL TOUR 1988" accompanying "RAM IT DOWN". This tour had no professional shots or performances in Japan, and was completely unknown to the general public, but it was actually a fierce "heavy metal utopia". This work is the best footage, which can be said to be the peak record. This work was filmed at the "Providence performance on July 31, 1988". It is a shot looking down from the left side of the stage (K.K. Downing side), but it was the front row of the second floor, so there was no shadow of the head or arm of the front row, and it is an excellent angle where JUDAS PRIEST occupies the field of view. In addition, the master freshness is also amazing. Of course, it is a video shoot due to the era, but there is not even a single line noise, and the beautiful image quality spreads across the screen... Ah, it's no good. If I were to write such a cliché phrase in a rambling manner, I would not be able to convey the awesomeness of this work. The visual beauty that embodies the ideals of such an audience is fierce, but what is even more overwhelming is the sound. Like the field of vision, it is a super clear sound with zero obstructions, but that is not the point. The classic broadcast sound source of the New Haven performance reigns as the pinnacle of this tour, but it is an exquisite sound that is comparable to that. It is not the type that can be mistaken for a sound board, but the slightly wrapped venue sound produces Rob Halford's divinity, and the crystal clear performance is wonderful to kick out poor line recordings. On top of that, there is almost no audience noise, and it is a full recording that cannot be expected on a broadcast... It is exactly the apex record of "MERCENARIES OF METAL TOUR 1988". And what is really amazing is "MERCENARIES OF METAL TOUR 1988" itself. Historically, it seems to have been overshadowed by the impact of the super masterpiece "PAINKILLER", but "RAM IT DOWN" was the starting point where they began to aim for the "core of HEAVY METAL". And it was "MERCENARIES OF METAL TOUR 1988" that they took that feeling to the stage. The show was exactly "heavy metal utopia", opening with "The Hellion / Electric Eye" which embodied their ideal, followed by the best (and thoroughly heavy metal) set list of the time. I think you will feel dizzy just by looking at the list of songs below, but the repertoire of "RAM IT DOWN" is the most valuable among them. Starting with the title track "Ram It Down", the heavy "Come And Get It" and "Heavy Metal", the lyrical "I'm A Rocker" .... In the studio album, the bland beat like a drum machine attracted strange attention, but in this 100% live work, the taste of the songs themselves is exposed. The super famous song "I'm A Rocker" was revived in 2005, but the other three songs are extremely rare numbers that were only played on this tour. It is the apex record. When the official live album "PRIEST...LIVE!" was released, people asked, "Why this tour?" Behind those words was the awesomeness of "WORLD VENGEANCE TOUR 1982" and "METAL CONQUEROR TOUR 1984", but in fact the next "MERCENARIES OF METAL TOUR 1988" was reminiscent of the two tours, but it was a thoroughly metal and apex-class set. The fact that no professional shots were left on this tour is a loss in music history. However, this work remained instead. The later "PAINKILLER TOUR" may have been the climax, but it is hot because it runs up the stairs of revival to reach there. "MERCENARIES OF METAL TOUR 1988" was a tour de force that was ignited by the indomitable fighting spirit of the band, despite being bashed by the PMRC and the absurd court case. This masterpiece conveys the truth of the tour in the finest quality. Disc 1 (49:58) 1. The Hellion / Electric Eye 2. Metal Gods 3. Sinner 4. Breaking The Law 5. Come And Get It 6. I'm A Rocker 7.
