Previously, the 1966 German performance was released from the same series, but the sound source and video have been newly excavated and upgraded, and some of them have also made their first appearance, and this time it has been released as a new German set. With a volume of two CDs and three DVDs, it is truly a perfect German set. The Beatles in 1966 were enveloped in a heavy atmosphere. The large-scale US tour was in its third year, and the performers were feeling a sense of inertia and boredom, and were losing their motivation to take the stage. During the tour, they only went back and forth between the hotel and the venue, and it was an environment where no musical improvement could be expected. Later history showed that the Beatles stopped all touring activities that year and focused on studio work. However, at the time, no one, including their manager Epstein, could have imagined that the members were thinking such a thing, and the audience would have fallen into the illusion that the Beatles would continue to perform concerts forever. In fact, the Beatles' live performances in 1966 were lackluster, and three members acknowledged this in the anthology. However, they gave an exceptionally wonderful performance in Germany in June. The Beatles had finished their UK tour in December of the previous year, and then went on a long vacation. They took the stage only once at the NME concert on May 1st, but their first tour was in Germany at the end of June. They performed in Germany, Japan, and the Philippines, and the history of the Beatles' live shows came to an end with a summer tour of the US. Germany was the first stop in the short 1966 tour and number of shows. About a week before their 1966 Japan performance, which is special for us Japanese, the Beatles began their first tour of the year in three cities: Munich, Essen, and Hamburg. Surprisingly, it was their first time performing on stage in Germany since 1962. According to one passage, it was said that it was difficult for the Beatles members to go there because there were many old friends who knew about their "badness" before their debut, but in any case, Germany is a memorable place that trained the band in their early days. Many old friends visited the venue, and it is said that they went out into the city at night after the concert. Perhaps it was this sense of freedom that worked, but The Beatles' performance in Germany was more passionate than their other performances in 1966, and it was hard to believe that they were a band that had decided to stop touring after two months. This work is a compilation of those German performances. The dates for the German performances were as follows: June 24, 1966 Circus-Krone-Bau, Munich, Germany June 25, 1966 Grugahalle, Essen, Germany June 26, 1966 Ernst Merck Halle, Hamburg, Germany DVD disc 1 is the footage of the first day in Munich. As it was their first performance in Germany since their debut, it is clear that there is a lot of footage left. From the moment they landed at the airport, the enthusiasm of the fans who greeted them, and the motorcade transportation, the TV reporters talkatively and excitedly report on the situation. What is surprising is a female fan who has come to Germany from America to "follow" the band. It shows how much people love The Beatles, especially in an era when transportation was not as cheap and accessible as it is today. The main concert footage is clearer than ever before, and it is moving to see how far the footage of the Munich concert, which has been released repeatedly since the days of low-quality video, has come. What is interesting is that it includes the complete archive footage of the police who were in charge of security at the time. It was probably filmed for the purpose of documenting similar cases in the future, but it contains vivid color footage of the area around the venue, the fans, and the actual Beatles stage. Moreover, it is not faded, but the colors are so clear and vivid that it seems as if it was filmed just recently. There are many Beatles videos, but it is no coincidence that such vivid color footage is preserved in Japan and Germany, which are technologically advanced countries. DVD disc 2 contains footage from Munich to Essen. Many people will be surprised to see the color footage of Munich that opens the DVD. The DVD disc 1 contains footage of the color footage of the German police, with the sound synchronized with the performance. What is interesting is that, although not all songs, the black and white footage can be colorized. By colorizing what was previously black and white footage, it gives a completely different impression than before. You can also watch the Munich performance again, including different shots, different angles, and other footage. Unfortunately, there is not much footage of Essen, but this is a very worthwhile disc, including a documentary made in Germany. DVD disc 3 is Hamburg. As this is also the place where they were based before their debut, there is a lot of footage from their arrival by train to the press conference. When it comes to Germany, the footage of Munich is so famous, but the footage of The Beatles at their Hamburg performance is also wonderful. It is surprising that the footage of them being welcomed by an enthusiastic audience from the moment they took the stage, including both long and close-up shots, is so clear. It is also rare to see John wearing sunglasses on the stage in the footage. The footage recorded after the performance scene is also a video taken by the local police in Hamburg for security purposes. Along with the heartwarming local scenery, the venue and the fans are carefully recorded, and the enthusiasm of the time is very well conveyed. Disc 1 of the CD starts with the undercards Cliff Bennett and Peter & Gordon, and the Beatles' performances include all seven existing songs recorded on a soundboard with the highest sound quality ever. Two performances were held in Munich on this day, one in the afternoon and one in the evening, and it has been discovered in recent years that the broadcast at the time was a combination of the best takes from each day and night. Until now, research into the distinction between day and night had not yet matured, so on the previously released boards, they were credited together as "Munich, June 24th." However, this time, the distinction between day and night is listed for each song, for example, "I'm Down" is the evening session and "Baby's In Black" is the day session. Although the sound quality is slightly different, it has been upgraded from the previous version, and I think that enthusiastic enthusiasts will be surprised by the further improvement in sound quality. Furthermore, the second half of the DVD contains a different version of the Munich sound source, which was recorded via a different route from the main sound source derived from the video. Although it is fragmentary, you can listen to "I'm Down" from the day performance, tuning before the day performance, and "I Wanna Be Your Man" from the day performance, which has not been recorded in either the day or night performance until now. The second CD disc contains a complete audience recording of the day performance of the two day and night performances in Essen on June 25th, and as much of the remaining sound source as possible from the day performance of the two day and night performances in Hamburg on June 26th. The audience recording of the Essen day performance was also unearthed in recent years, but the unstable pitch of the previously released version has been accurately adjusted and remastered. Although the sound quality is by no means blessed, it has been upgraded to a level that changes the impression of the previous version. ■Major upgrade of audio and video■Numerous first-time footage■Reprint of valuable German tour pamphlet DVD DISC ONE – MUNICH Circus-Krone-Bau, Munich June 24, 1966 01.
